LISTEN IN SOLITUDE TO "THE HERMIT" BY STUMPWATER

posted February 7th, 2019

Joe Gloor, Dan Berg and Dan Haligas were just a group of friends from the suburbs of Illinois with big city dreams of rock n' roll glory. Their lone release, "White Washed Afternoons" b/w "Watcher's Brawl", was released under the name StumpWater in 1975 and fell on mostly deaf ears, leaving the band with little option for a breakout. Undeterred, the boys continued to stay active for the love of music, gigging around their home state for decades (eventually carrying the torch without Dan Haligas,... (read more)

NO AGE FLIP HEMISPHERES

posted February 4th, 2019

No Age exemplify efficiency as a means to creativity, as their two-man approach to huge sounding and thrilling punk music proudly displays. This dynamic appears effortless on Snares Like A Haircut, which is often a sign that in fact some serious thought and planning went into whatever the hell they're doing to make it sound so good. Since it's release, No Age have methodically toured all over the world, country by country, and they're still not done - 2019 ushers in the Snares Like... (read more)

MASAKI BATOH SENDS THE SUNDOWN FROM NOWHERE

posted January 31st, 2019

The sound of Nowhere richly reflects the four dimensional world  Masaki Batoh has traveled since the early days--a vast space echoing the music of many eras, under the universal guise of rock and psych, played and sung in the tongue of many nations. With the releases of  Nowhere's first two singles, "Nowhere" and "Tower of the Silence", the venerable essence of Batoh's intricate songwriting was on full display. Now, it's time for the world to indulge in a new single, the extended Japanese folk-blues workout called, "Sundown"!

HIGHWAY ROBERTSRY!

posted January 30th, 2019

One thing the people know about our own Alasdair Roberts is that likes that old-time music. His discography over the last five years alone reveals solo activity alongside group projects such as Alasdair Roberts & Friends, as well as his acclaimed partnership in The Furrow Collective. Right now, Ali's on the road as a solo, opening for The... (read more)

THE SOUND IN YOUR EAR IS DEFORMING LOBES

posted January 22nd, 2019

In 2018, Ty Segall and the The Freedom Band -- Mikal Cronin, Charles Moothart, Emmett Kelly, and Ben Boye -- stormed the world in support of Freedom's Goblin, playing songs from Ty's catalog in a series of ecstatic setlists. Each night, they sought freedom for themselves and the audience, even it if was just one night of emancipation from the world's numbing chill. Then they went and did it again the next night! That blunt-force impact of The Freedom Band in full... (read more)
