CAVE THE WORLD

posted January 20th, 2014

It's only been four months since the new CAVE album, and already CAVE has toured heavily and heartily through North America on the back of Threace. It was to be expected; Threace is their densest batch of jams yet to be released, not to mention their most danceable. A difficult balancing act for listener's ears, best to demonstrate to them in person. So CAVE's own backyard of America was cleaned up before taking their ever expanding depth of field to the other side of... (read more)

FRESH NEW SOUNDS... WOO DUNNIT AGAIN!

posted January 15th, 2014

Some of the softest and strangest sounds ever to arrive at our door step were also the most welcomed, and they come from a group known as Woo. Emboldened and emblazoned by the success of the recent reissue of It's Cosy Inside, Mark and Clive Ives, the nucleus of Woo, had a listen to hundreds of previously unreleased tracks recorded in the 70s and 80s to assemble their first new record in two decades, an album ripe with addictive and (deceptively) airy... STATUS UPDATE: SOPHIA KNAPP

posted January 13th, 2014

What's up with Sophia Knapp, you wonder? We're still jamming Into The Waves as regularly as the cycles of the moon and the night tide (and so should you, if you haven't - be at one with your planet, before it's too late!), but girl's got waves crashing elsewhere, too, well worth a mention! Like, specifically, her sojourn to Brazil, wherein Sophia spent her time realigning with the elements and, in turn, creating a new E.P.'s -worth of material. When a sound is made... (read more)

FRED ARMISEN REVEALS: HOMETOWN HEROES

posted January 10th, 2014

Around the biz, it's well known that most celebrities have quirky little fetishes: Kristen Stewart and her armpit licking, Richard Gere and his gerbils, Heather Mills and her stump. Then there's Fred Armisen, who gets his kicks with ear play - by listening to obscure records, of course! Fred's got an immaculately curated collection of them, one we felt should naturally be shared with others. So with great pleasure, we introduce a new 7" single series dedicated to regional music stars of decades... (read more)

DEAD RIDER ON THE HORIZON

posted January 8th, 2014

Your head...it's a locked door - but Dead Rider's got the key. And Chills On Glass is sliding it open.

Chills On Glass, Dead Rider's third ride, juxtaposes high and low values - serious playing, danceablity, controlled-outcomes experimentation, and don't-give-a-fuck rad-itude. The fantasy of Dead Rider is akin to the spectacle of a night on the town, gliding through the darkness while thrust up, out of the limousine's sunroof. Scribble, confetti and other sonic details rain down like snow, providing... (read more)

MEET THE NEW FIELDHAND, SAME AS THE OLD FIELDHAND

posted December 20th, 2013

It's that time again; baby new year comes bouncing in while the old man is shown the door. We're raised to take hope in these things, these "years" - that the clock can be reset instead of ticking, ticking, ticking towards it's damnable conclusion, that 99 percent of us lose again. Don't believe the hype, brothers and sisters! This is a cartoon, foisted upon you by the powers that be, designed to keep you complacent, feeding at government tits. Don't reach for the reset button,... (read more)

The Drag City Newsletter!!!!!!!!!!! December 2013

posted December 17th, 2013

THE END OF THE ROAD

2013 is winding down; we’re all closer to the finish, but just like you know who, we can’t stop, and even now, as the journalists of the country lazily echo each other’s best-of-the-year lists, Drag City has fresh new releases out (and fresh old ones too! – anatomically correct ed.), and each one of them reflect the odd drifts of the year we will one day understand in a way we can’t possibly now. There’s another jewel from... (read more)

AQUARIANA BUNDLES UP WITH SOURCE FAMILY BROTHERS AND SISTERS

posted December 13th, 2013

If you've seen The Source Family film and want to take the plunge into the world of Source Family audio-cana but don't know where to begin, let Aquariana provide you with a beginning! Aquariana's previously unreleased LP of songs recorded within the Source Family studios were meant to come out on house label, Higher Key, back in the 70s. But relocation and other struggles, culminating with Father Yod's untimely death, prevented the ethereal sounds from ever being heard by the people of the light... (read more)

'BORDERS OF MY MIND' REVEALED BY YONKERS & WOEHRLE

posted December 10th, 2013

We're sweating some kind of wicked anticipation syndrome fever buried underneath the snow here in the DC bunker. The origin of the virus strain is unknown, but one thing is for certain - these Michael Yonkers fans are more persistent than pack of rabid zombies! But we can't really blame them; we're giddy with Yonkers delight, ourselves, and really can't fathom keeping a lid on things all the way to January's release date. So! We missed out on Hanukkah, but we're early for Xmas with... (read more)

CALLAHAN'S DREAM RIVER NEWLY DUBBED 'HAVE FUN WITH GOD'

posted December 5th, 2013

Dub is a spiritual, abstract, visceral, mystical thing. Finite and Infinite at the same time. Deeply rooted in the earth and embracing outer space. Don’t be fooled by names, Dub has come and gone. Dub is a ghost, a duppy. A duppy of a childhood guppy. Flushed and thriving in the sewers and the swamps. Bill Callahan, no stranger to a good flushing, has thus taken his #1 Album of the Year, Dream River, and turned it dub! The whole thing now,... (read more)
