SPOTLIGHT ON HIGGINS

posted July 11th, 2016

Gary Higgins is back from the time-space continuum with not one, but TWO, upcoming live performances! Way back in 2005, Drag City introduced his 1974 psych-folk classic, the previously privately pressed Red Hash, to listeners around the world. The world has never been the same, as we were all acutely touched by Gary’s carefully-arranged, darkly utopian songs - songs that proved an inspiration for many, including some of our very own sons of darkness, like Six Organs of Admittance. Red Hash has... (read more)

posted July 7th, 2016

Citizens of the UK, it should go without saying that this is a time OF GREAT UNREST! And yet, with the fate of the world in the balance, we can't simply act as if it's still business as usual! Amidst the uncertainty, however, the levelheadedness of Scotland's finest son, Alasdair Roberts, REMAINS! And with an arresting arpeggio on the trusty six-string, he's sizing up the future and seizing the moment to settle his immediate surroundings with song! Naturally, we're talking about a few mini-runs through that recalcitrant fiefdom to the... (read more)

Soccer Club Club is proud to present an exhibition of Rita Ackermann in conjunction with the release of her book, Jezebels, on Drag City. The exhibition features prints from the forthcoming book and a large oil painting from Ackermann Brother painting series. The images of Jezebels were shot by Richard Kern staged after an Ackermann painting from 2002 "Restlessness and Angry Optimism". PRESLEY COMES ALIVE!

posted June 30th, 2016

On the cover, a bare chest and bits of bodies sketched in jagged lines of black and white. Inside, in full calor, we find Tim Presley. The dark force behind White Fence steps into the solo light with The WiNK.

Tim's a man in a glass booth, grabbing at scraps of paper blown at his windscreen as if they were of the greatest value. They're actually of the ONLY value. The Presley guitar hand has a powerful, yet quicksilver touch,... (read more)

KEEP YOUR HEAD BUT LOSE YOUR MIND WITH RANGDA LIVE

posted June 21st, 2016

Meticulous in their sweet 'n' sensual severity, the other-wordly group called Rangda are two weeks away from colliding in Europe for more touring off the back of their new album, The Heretic's Bargain! Why collide, you ask? We answer, because this band is comprised of three unique personalities who drop their acclaimed individual pursuits as Six Organs of Admittance, Sir Richard Bishop, and Chris Corsano (some people don't need to assume a name other than their own, ok?) to join together and... THE DRAG CITY NEWSLETTER!! JUNE 2016

posted June 14th, 2016

SPEED OF SOUND

Suddenly, it’s summer chill-time and we’re still kicking it extra-hard, but not so hard that you’ll ever notice. We’ve learned that you don’t get to 50 whole years of being a record label by making headlines every ding-dang quarter! For instance: now. Drag City’s in a stretch where we only have a couple new releases over a three month period! Good thing they’re both GREAT. For every Carly Simon, a David Ackles (as Elektra Records might... DRAG CITY TAKES YOU THERE: PRIMAVERA RECAP

posted June 13th, 2016

HISSING IT ON DOWN THE LINE

posted June 9th, 2016

Hey Purling Hiss fans - your beacon of light in the excesses and deluge of common-blahs is always here for you. His name is Mike Polizze, and although Purling Hiss has shone on us with precious few glimpses of new material since Weirdon, the Hiss blisters and bubbles with twisted excitement from the excrement at ALL times, and NOW is actually no different. See, earlier this year Purling Mike went Hiss-solo on a string of dates opening for Kurt Vile, and that range... (read more)
