GENTLY AND SOFTLY SING THE BLUE JEAN COMMITTEE

posted November 13th, 2015

Ahhhhh. The feeling of a fresh cotton towel straight out of the dryer; draping your skin in warm and fluffy hug of fabric. Or maybe the soft touch of puffy kittens entangled in your arms? These simple feelings of pleasure and contentment are often hard to emulate...unless you're the Blue Jean Committee! The almost-otherworldly quality of the smooth-n silky vocal harmonies of softrock legends Clark Honus and Gene Allen possess an ability to instantly transport and relax your body and mind to a peaceful... WAND HO! (Tour Report, Pt 2)

WAND TOUR REPORT #2

October 31st (HALLOWEEN), Vancouver BC

We drove to Olympia after the Portland show. Corey (from Vexx n GLOSS, insane drummer) had secured us a house to catch a few hours of sleeeeeeeeeep. We were greeted by friend Alice who woke from her slumbery haze to greet us and give us a tour of her room. We talked about Hole and Manson fam and interior decorating. There were shards of broken mirror all over the floor.

THE RED KRAYOLA PRESENT CORRECTED SLOGANS LIVE!

posted November 6th, 2015

The Red Krayola. Let's not be hyperbolic or anything (what, we exaggerate?) but Mayo Thompson and The Red Krayola have  essentially inverted entire genres of music with their  redefinitions of 'rock' over the years. They've managed to make albums entirely distinct from each other time and again. However, this weekend, for the first time, Mayo will lead The Red Krayola through a live set of the Corrected Slogans albums at the esteemed REDCAT (at CalArts Downtown Center for Contemporary Arts) in Los Angeles tomorrow.

WAND ON THE RUN (Tour Report, Pt 1)

posted November 5th, 2015

To whom it may concern at Drag City Inc.

As required by our unwritten unspoken thoughtless and partially botched blood promise, which we MUST fulfill out of good faith, sweet love and general confusion, here is the 1st of 20 reports regarding our fall 2015 North American Tour. I hope the data your employees extract from our represented experience will elaborate the facts: L.I.F.E! and a storm of blackberries, showers of chrome-dunked blessings ten fold-- be sure to pack your thermal... BILL CALLAHAN GIVES FREELY

posted November 5th, 2015

Bill Callahan is a giver of many things - song, words, drawings, life - and shows! Plus, the man has a way with treating the locals more like family than neighbors, too; so with all that deep rooted resentment comes bursts of unbridled love and random acts of kindness! And while giving and loving are rarely exclusive from each other, it ain't too often that they're combined so wonderfully as they will be this Friday, when ol' Bill takes the stage at The New Movement... HERE COME THE HIGH LLAMAS

posted November 4th, 2015

Melodiously receptive ears rejoice! The High Llamas, the best in the game at warmly wonderous pop song, arrangement and harmony, are set to return with a new album!

How'd it come about? While cycling around his home-district of Peckham (in southeast London) a few years ago, Sean O'Hagan decided that not only would the new High Llamas music be driven by narratives, a collection of stories, but they would first have to be performed as theatre; reshaped theatre, if you like, blending... SIX ORGANS DOES HEXADIC II RELEASE GIG; GETS SPOOK ON

posted October 30th, 2015

With Hexadic II, Six Organs of Admittance's second endeavor into the world of the Hexadic System, Ben Chasny's deftly maddened acoustic guitar playing hits our ears after what feels like a kind of forever. What may signify to some ears as folk music is caught in an equally compelling undertow of powerful subterranean energy. Ghostly vocals of divergent timbres sing over the fluid interplay of guitars, harmonium, violin - and pure space, as the reverberant room around the sounds plays as... (read more)
