August 27: What a Rajor!

posted August 27th, 2010

August 27th... today's date is not normally remembered for any particular reason. But if you look at the history of our country, and specifically that relating to the east coast, or even New York in particular, you'll notice something. There is something about this date that has been fairly monumental over the last century. Is it astrological? Does Mercury play in? We're not sure.

Look at these facts: on August 27th, 1958, the USA launched a nuclear test in the Atlantic Ocean (yeah mini-Cousteau, the... (read more)

THE TURNING OF THE STYLES

Great day in the morning! It seems as if an entire era has passed since we last visited upon one and all news of recent happenstance within the confederacy of Drag City. Lest these words send the fastidious among you searching vainly through his in-box for proof of our last missive, allow me to assure you that it was only sixty days previous that we most recently delivered our latest news-digest in gazette form. And yet, the passage of... (read more)

Mother Twilight's Little Helper

Faunites unite! Dawn McCarthy, head Faun, is in need of some assistance. Due to her extremely and increasingly busy schedule (what with putting the finishing touches on a new album, rehearsing for an upcoming American tour, raising a family and raising her voice in song), Dawn is looking for a fine folk to help keep her organizationally in tune. Mostly this will include, but may not be limited to, updating and maintaining her web site while simultaneously keeping her social networking sites abuzz with... (read more)

ANOTHER CHANCE FOR NEWSOM

posted August 20th, 2010

When is it ever really worth it to watch TV these days? I mean, there's some good stuff on there, but it seems the airwaves are mostly filled with half-assed, mindless approximations of reality interrupted by commercials not nearly often enough (oh, for more commercials!). Well, the good folks(?!) over at ABC have given us the desire to grab our clicker again and fire up the old boobs tube - for you see, last week's Joanna Newsom appearance on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! is re-airing... MISS TAKEN IDENTITY

posted August 19th, 2010

We love AZITA. Her records grow firm and fine as they age - and a wonderful brood they are, four strong and aged one through seven. Still, we haven't heard anything from AZITA in a little while, and we can't really get a straight answer from her on Facebook...so can someone tell us what the is going on? We've just been informed of the existance of something called the JOE Festival (that stands for Joyous Outdoor Event, uh, Festival) that's gonna rocking Chicago's lakefront... (read more)

Neil Hamburger Crosses The Pond

posted August 13th, 2010

As we speak, Neil Hamburger is floating his way across the Atlantic towards jolly England-- unable to afford a plane ticket, he's been reduced to paddling a second-hand life raft through the shark infested seas! Assuming he makes it, Neil will then embark on a hitchhiking mission in the desperate hopes of arriving in Edinburgh by Monday, where he'll begin his week-long stint as dishwasher and (oh, yeah) entertainer at Edinburgh's quite legendary Assembly rooms. After that, if his modest dishwashing fee is paid in... (read more)

Hall Hail Joanna Newsom!

posted August 7th, 2010

Over the past five years, Joanna Newsom has given concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Hall, Town Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and even the Walt Disney Concert Hall (amongst many other famed halls round the globe), so it was only inevitable that the day would come when we would announce that Joanna Newsom will grace the stage of Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, November 23rd. Tickets go on sale Monday, August 9th.

But first! Joanna Newsom will hit the royal halls of Jimmy Kimmel... (read more)

Bonnie/Cairo last all night long...

posted August 5th, 2010

Bonnie Prince Billy & The Cairo Gang are on their way back from gigging across Ireland and the UK, where the love was jolly, abundant, and sold out! Guess you actually can put a price on that stuff. Think they’re tired from their transatlantic travels? Well, you’re wrong! In fact, Bonnie & The Gang are in transit as we speak, ready to spread their love all over the Pacific Northwest with an appearance at the Pickathon Festival in Happy Valley, Oregon. Who needs rest when... (read more)
