Does the mind make a sound? Will it be heard in a forest of crashing trees, if no one's not around? It can and will be, if you use a Brain Pulse Machine! And you won't have to run off to a cabin in the woods to hear it, either - because Masaki Batoh is in the middle of a North American tour to celebrate and propegate the album of his discovery, Brain Pulse Music, wherein the amazing Brain Pulse Machine is used... SIC ALPS ON TOP AND IN THE BIZ BAG
posted May 8th, 2013
This morning, the world heard the premiere of "Biz Bag," one of the completely bonk, top-of-the-pop-tart jams from the freshly pressed-and-forthcoming (May 21st!) “She’s On Top” 12"EP by Sic Alps. "She's On Top," a concise gem-drop! Pure rock n' roll directives of an unusually clean (for Sic Alps!) variety pour forever from das grooves and we're not gonna lie - this ain't no waxident, it's a classicident! One solid blast threatens to obliterate both end of yer... (read more)

TODAY IS THE DOPE SATURDAY YOU ALWAYS WANT TOMORROW TO BE
posted May 7th, 2013
Dope Body come on like the animal that knows one thing and one thing only: how to get it up any night of the week like it's the last Saturday night on planet earth. Point come to shove, they're sweetly in tune with every day of the week and all their chemical properties - so much so that any evening under the stars can turn from droll to delectably cosmic and sweat-filled, hot and sticky like an awakenings-bright beam of light, leaping through the cosmos... NEW YEAR, NEW DATES WITH AZITA
posted May 2nd, 2013
Year was the sleeper record of 2012, and it is from that slumber we rise into 2013! With the fresh sun of a new year shining down, AZITA's out the door and and into the good ol' darkness of clubs scene with some absolutely crucial Eastern and Midwestern tour dates! Because indeed, when AZITA plays live, you're getting more than the experience of hearing tracks from records (and she's got a few, including maybe even the one you haven't hear yet) - you're getting... AS SUMMER APPROACHES, PREPARE FOR BITCHIN BAJAS
posted May 1st, 2013
Bitchin Bajas are back, baby! Their new album Bitchitronics, out July 16, 2013, is ready with the quickness we expect from the Chicago-based band - which is funny, since their area of mastery is that of synthetic ephemeral sonic languidity known more instinctively, inclusively (and let's face it, irresponsibly) as drone music. Basically, they make slow music at a fast pace. Bitchitronics is their first record as a trio, blending new instruments into the mix of electric keys and posthuman tones and loops of... (read more)

SIX ORGANS OVER ITALY
posted April 29th, 2013
Lately, the Drag City underground HMFQ has received strange sonics from the outer regions of the solar system. Since our satellite (overground antenna) is live, 24/7, ready for direct interface with intelligent, (ie, non-earthly) life at any moment, it's not really freaking us out too much. We get audio disruptions from asteroid showers, magnetic fields, space junk, and exploding planets on a regular basis, which keeps us on each other's toes and acutely dialed in; thus, it's with the greatest of ease that we recognize... IT'S A-HAPPENING! THE SOURCE FAMILY PREMIERES WITH SPECIAL EVENTS NATIONWIDE!
posted April 26th, 2013
Spring has sprung, and The Source Family naturally grows wild in the country! The Father Yod doc, about a peaceful hippie cult of spritual rock n' communal mayhem, healthy living, meditation and otherworldly practices all originating in a star-packed health-food restaurant in 1970s Hollywood, premieres at IFC Theater in New York beginning May 1st (get your tix here)! Leading up to it we've prepared nothing but Source Family mania for the coming weekend and for weeks into the future at premieres nationwide! Things get real... (read more)

SCOUTING THE LANDSCAPES: NIBLETT TOURS EUROPE
posted April 25th, 2013
Hott Drang - 2013 just might be alright after all. There is a new Scout Niblett record, and while we like the title, It's Up To Emma, we want to gently remind that it's also up to YOU, oh nameless, faceless (but never soulless) live music-loving fans of Scout Niblett! And that means of course, ALL y'all Scout fans (and what the heck, modern music fans in general), amiright? What ever do we mean? First and foremost know that it means that we... (read more)

THE DRAG CITY NEWSLETTER APRIL 2013!!!!!
posted April 22nd, 2013
OPENING DAZE
Here comes the sun, anyone? Yes. The ice caps is melting once again - but this time, it means one simple, unsinister thing, and that is Spring. This time, we are not dying, but living anew! Spring, and pitchers and catchers alike are swinging. Spring: the promise of music is on the air, of music in the air - sounds blaring forth from windows and macs and cars and melting into the heat, and the congregation of the many (though, let's face it,... HISSING TOWARDS EUROPE!!!
posted April 22nd, 2013
Whoa, nature! Nothing like inertia to help things grow; ever since the release of Water On Mars, the intensely fuzz-soaked banger of a full length album out just a month ago, Purling Hiss have annihlistically replicated the album at crushing volumes across the USA for jovial young rockers and old heads in each town they've visited, moving bodies with their waves of affirming sound, then chilling out afterwards and signing body parts they didn't previously know existed (yet obliging like the glad partiers they...
