A'HAPPENING NOW: MEN AND WOMEN SINGING WHAT THE BROTHERS SANG

posted July 30th, 2013

The sticky hot crossroads and bisections of America are nothing compared to the hot n sticky sounds of Dawn McCarthy & Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, who've melting stages, cities, sidewalks and streets 'round the world this summer in support of their ode to the Everly's, What The Brothers Sang. On the North American trip, they've hit corners of the continent rarely traveled by we Drag City folk, way up in the cracks of Alaska and The Yukon. Sure, they've made obligatory stops through some major metropoli, too, but who gives a nut 'bout them, anyway? The real weight of things just gets heavier as the group, including Cairo Gang, Van Campbell, and Cheyenne Mize, ease their way back into the heartland for the home stretch of What The Brothers Sang shows, culminating in a Bonne-town gig in Louisville, Kentucky, at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Will they actually play "Kentucky" for a sure-to-be expectant crowd? Hard to imagine Dawnnie, Bonnie and the crew letting the night slip away without. Plus, there's shows from tonight til then for the rest of us to enjoy, for which surprises should be as expected as anything the heart desires. We can only hope but never expect to hear "Devoted To You," "Omaha," and more from the Everly cannon, songs from within the WTBS album and songs from without, in classic fashion - fans of The Letting Go, ready thy ticket buying hand. In the thick, wild wilderness of tour life, songs, like the rest of things, begin to morph and take strange shape- watch them evolve as the What The Brothers Sang tour revs towards climax!
