Today, Laetitia Sadier issues “Who + What”, the third and final single for her new album, Rooting For Love, her first solo album in seven years, out February 23rd via Drag City.
Alongside Rooting For Love’s two previously-released singles (“Une Autre Attente” and “Panser L’inacceptable”), “Who + What” is meant as nothing less than transformational sonic balm to aid the evolution of Earth’s traumatized civilizations. The song is a gently percolating Q&A led by Laetitia’s implacable vocal presence, as she and an assembly of women and men dubbed The Choir create blossoming vocal arrangements borne aloft on a cinematic sweep of sound. The regular reappearance of The Choir throughout Rooting For Love enriches the harmonic fields in which Laetitia plays, while reminding us that this music speaks for a critical mass in crisis.
Over the course of the three-plus decades she’s sung for the public, Laetitia Sadier has never shied away from the hard topics, or stopped advocating for the possibility of self determination and emancipation in the face of the powers that be, conscious or unconscious. This is an essential part of the foundation she co-built with Stereolab, showcasing her spiritual, scientific and sociopolitical inquiries. With Rooting For Love, Laetitia continues her journey of the self through time, space and collective consciousness with an ensemble that includes bassist Xavi Muñoz, Hannes Plattmeier and Emma Mario programming drums and synths (as well as mixing tracks), and the aforementioned Choir.
With the release of Rooting For Love imminent, Laetitia is readying for a U.S. tour commencing this March, starting with a performance at The Chapel in San Francisco on Saturday, March 2. Tickets are now on sale.
