The return of P.G. Six’s deep acoustic focus, a devotional style honed from childhood, oozes forth from every pore of his new LP, Murmurs & Whispers. Based in hypnotic figurations on his Triplett Celtic Harp (and hurdy gurdy, guitar and keyboards), Pat Gubler effortlessly projects a whirlwind of emotions, from wistful melancholy to dark remonstration and ethereal exultation.
P.G.'s progressive visions radiate from ancient traditions; on Murmurs & Whispers' second single, “I Have A House,” he adapts lyrics from a 13th century Irish ballad to make the song all his own. With his quintessentially earthbound evocation of the celestial - a rolling drone, long-delay reverb, synthesizer, feedback and a massive electric guitar break, P.G. Six draws forth the magisterial and mystic qualities of his sanctuary. Springing from the hand-drawn imagery on the LP jacket, the primitive stop-motion animation of the video for “I Have A House” (created by Pat and Mayuko Fujino), perfectly expresses the vision of song and album alike - modern folk music at a zenith of homespun psychedelic minimalism!
