The music of Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin'sGhosted, put forth with a steady flow of small details on bass, guitar and drums, is a remarkable display of minimalist, rhythmic flexibility. Those three go deep as it is, but the latest single from Ghosted, "I", also features the legendary Swedish reed player Christer Bothén on donso n'goni, the sound of which syncs like a 4th dimensional cog in the revolving spectral watch Oren, Johan and Andreas have created. Bothén's knowledge of the guimbri and donso n’goni was incisively shared with the great Don Cherry some fifty years ago, turning him on to the instruments for the first time! Here, the resulting configuration only increases the sparkling electro-acoustic nature of this intoxicating trance-out.
The Ghosted story begins with Oren and Johan getting involved with each other onstage and off since 2003, including several duo recordings to their credit, as well as additional encounters in the group Fire! with Mats Gustafsson and drummer Andreas Werliin. Recently, when Oren and Johan reconvened in the studio for a furthering of the thought process that they’d come to on the second Ambarchi / Berthling collaboration, 2015’s Tongue Tied (which Werliin mixed), they asked Andreas to sit behind the kit since he’d already been intimately involved in their collaborative mind.
Listening to "I", you may wonder if there might be something in the air. The answer is yes, and now it’s in your air. Don’t stop to think. Just listen. Ghosted is out 4/15!
