Crack a Light! Dope Body's back on the line with their first album since 2015, rife with the gnarly, bisected body attacks that typified their great records and shows on the other side of the teens. A decade plus from the audacity of 20 Pound Brick, their debut cassette, and four years since calling it quits, Dope Body are suddenly liver than we thought they'd ever be again.
Maybe they just needed a bit of time off, with some pre-contagion social distancing enforced also. Even (/especially?) with a couple guys on the west coast and the other two back east, the Dope energy is once again surging, as witnessed by the sudden crack of May's online-tening QUOVID mixtape, Home Body, reinforced now by Crack a Light's first strike: the explosive, corrosive opening track, "Curve."
A power-trio-with-singer inter-spliced with face-forward sonic wanderers, Dope Body always bring a TON of relentlessness and screaming and a bottom thump to truly LIVE for, streamlined with mirror shards and other trance-inducing guitar glitter and body gore. Now, freely shedding a potent supply of fresh filth picked up from their (blessedly!) shallow grave, Dope Body cut their punk rocks with metal and test their metals with digital FX on "Curve", surging forth with sand-throated shouts and intimations pointing the way.
Evoking the bravado of all-in group spirit to title what's surely their best album yet, Dope Body got their groove back after a lengthy hiatus the easy way - by throwing caution to the wind! Caring less about the things that aren't important! Getting back to basics. Going with their gut. Being in the moment. Making a guitar sound like a chrome pig fucking a power outlet. Name your new age platitude.
Crack a Light! Out October 30th, 2020.
