RETURN TO HOFFMAN ESTATES THIS WEEK!

posted May 20th, 2019

Blank Forms presents the show of the year that you didn't even know you were looking forward to not missing! On Thursday, May 23, at the Brooklyn School of Music, Kevin Drumm headlines a show featuring the reconvened ensemble of Alan Licht, Loren Connors, Ken Vandemark, Joshua Abrams and Chad Taylor - an all-star reunion of 1998's all-star production of Licht and Mazzacane-Connor's Hoffman Estates album. On it's (just past) 20th anniversary, the subtle charms of Jim O'Rourke's production seem prescient: a free-jazz homage to the Teo Macero's heavy-edit Miles Davis productions with the mode-spirit of Gil Evans and the brooding space of Bill Dixon inextricably entwined. These are ideas worth revisiting! All the players on this evening were part of the original ensemble, which also featured Rob Mazurek, Jeb Bishop, Mike Colligan, Darin Gray and Rick Rizzo - and for one night only, they will summon their celebrated shape-shifting improvisational skills in the name of this now-distant, under-appreciated, but never-forgotten day of musical synthesis in the unlikeliest of Chicago suburbs.

Go see Hoffman Estates: Conners, Licht, Vandermark, Abrams, Taylor live this week!
