The third segment in the ongoing Hexadic series might just be its most crowd-pleasing edition, with a variety of artists from different musical worlds taking on Ben Chasny's combinatorial theory for composition, The Hexadic System. The system provides a malleable template to confront the wide array of choices one makes when playing and writing music, and this process makes the possibilities of a wide variety of artists seem even more infinite on Hexadic III! Each track takes on a distinct and dynamic sound - hear for instance, the contrasting sounds found within Meg Baird and Charlie Saufley's (half of acid scorchers Heron Oblivion) song "Protection Hex," which differ on many levels from the already-shared Jenks Miller track. The potential of the System is vast, providing unique results for different players; much like Six Organs' first two Hexadic projects, "Protection Hex" takes you on powerful musical journey into the enigma of interpretation and inspiration. "Protection Hex" is open and airy, with a creeping sense of beauty unfurling, slowly stoking the fires of melody and dissonance and viscerating the listener with a slow, smoke filled burn.
Listen to "Protection Hex" to continue down the Hexadic garden path of experimentation and the mind blowing proportions of harmonic expansion via chance -based compostion!
