UNBORN CAPITALIST PREVIEW #2: A PERFECT "REPLICA"

posted October 28th, 2016

Cory Hanson's solo debut, The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo, will be issued on November 11th, but because November feels so far away (and the anticipation is just KILLING us) we're compelled to share another song from it today! The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo is a lyrical rendering of personal/political woes centered around the shifting role of the Other, while reveling in ambiguous, often surrealist images. Stepping outside the multi-hued mayhem of his work with Wand, Cory Hanson's vocal delivery is disciplined and austere, showcasing a gliding upper range full of nuanced and melodic sensitivity.

These small details work hand in glove with Cory's ornately framed existential crisis on "Replica" - a lavish string quartet accompaniment provided by first-time arranger Heather Lockie adds refinement to his acoustic guitar and rhythm, while round, rolling beats from fellow Wand-ster Evan Burrows provide the nimble bone structure from which the song hangs.

"Replica" hits fresh and immediate, yet echoes with sonic signifiers from the orchestral pop sounds of yesteryear. Prick up your ears and listen for yourself!
