There's no place like the American landscape today; the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free - shouting fervently over the droning, never-ending voices of the establishment! Growing up in the fabled idyllic 1980s led Mike Polizze to evolve into a reasonably disenfranchised adult, rife with Notion Sickness and a permanently broken heart. These are the stakes he's driving for the new Purling Hiss tent High Bias, their third full length for Drag City, an estranged and disillusioned vision for here and now.
Seeking release, Purling Hiss manipulate rock tropes up and down the dial throughout High Bias, until we are drowned in sound and up to something new again. Guitar histrionics from all the phases are spread out over surging bass and broad, steady rhythms that compel you to raise your fist in the air and turn it up....one more! Yeah crank this! To 11!
Long live rock, and god bless America! Roll over onto NPR Music and listen to the album in its entirety, for free.
