Drag City, Inc. is pleased to announce the solo debut full length from Wand's Cory Hanson. The album was recorded during May of 2016 in various locations across Los Angeles County, and features prodigious string arrangements by Heather Lockie.
The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo is a secret that didn't need to be kept-conceived and was executed over many months. Hanson's lyrics here are his best to date. By turns naked, leering, playful, evasive, they present a mute, parading statuary-doughy figures waltzing in doomed configurations through bleeding watercolor backdrops across terrains of tangled information.
"Ordinary People" is the first single, and a brazen, broken statement, overflowing with verdant instrumentation, pensive vocals and gauzy harmonies. Cory's cup is half full and half empty all at once, giving a dark-eyed psalm reading that gestures toward secret mythos, yet remains balletic. Graceful and abstracted, "Ordinary People" informs the extracellular world of Cory Hanson's ability to come across completely even in the most austere settings, a lyricist and singer-songwriter of uncanny ability.
The music is gorgeous and livable, earthy in intent, but airborne once it has taken a couple steps. Every surface glistens threateningly with the promise of untold depth; every depth threatens to collapse into a shimmering surface. Children of Limbo, we are gathered here around a floor lamp, a darkening purple desert stretching out in every direction.
The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo comes to life on November 18th. Listen to the first single "Ordinary People" below!
