LAURA OWENS SHOW RUNNING THROUGH DECEMBER 18th AT SOCCER CLUB CLUB

posted December 4th, 2015

Looking for a place to wind down, watch the world's most popular sport and drink some brews with your buddies? Well, contrary to the name, we can't actually help you out in that department. We can, however, offer a solution for those interested in the visual arts! Soccer Club Club is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Laura Owens, organized by Wendy Yao.

The exhibition includes site-specific wall-mounted works in screen printing ink, oil and Flashe on Gampi Torinoko paper; hand carved, glazed porcelainemojis and soccer balls; and a new, large-scale painting, which hangs alongside the Soccer Club Club's mirrored walls so that the reflection completes a half-soccer ball on the left edge of the composition. Conceived specifically for the Soccer Club Club's, unique and singular space (it's an old Polish soccer bar, after all) this exhibition is not to be missed!

Laura Owens (b. 1970 Euclid, Ohio) lives and works in Los Angeles.  She teaches at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. Since 2012 she has operated the exhibition space 356 S Mission in Los Angeles in collaboration with Gavin Brown and Wendy Yao. In 2015 Owens had solo exhibitions at Secession, Vienna and Capitain Petzel, Berlin. Owens was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and is a finalist for the Guggenheim Museum's 2016 Hugo Boss Prize.
