ARKANSAS QUAKES FOR BONNY BILLY

posted July 8th, 2011

This guy, Bonny, he's everywhere, man. Today, catch him on NPR's All Things Considered working on a story called The Natural State, about the recent, mysterious swarm of earthquakes that have rattled the land of Arkansas. We never knew there were multiple definitions for the word "fracking," but apparently it's also something to do with extracting natural gas from deep within the Earth. This type of "fracking" may have caused these earthquakes, apparently, as you'll learn from listenin'. The story is filled with harrowing accounts from Arkansan natives expressing their fears about the quakes themselves as well as wonder as to their cause. The cause of the quakes, that is.

So Bonny gots some music involved, and's been a close collaborator with the story's focal producers, Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister, who have produced several other episodes to this Songs + Stories series. According to them, "The series marks an inventive approach in radio: collaborative storytelling that blends carefully-crafted interview and documentary tape with original songs from some of the country's best musicians. Their songs are more than just scoring; they're written as an integral part of the story's narrative." Sounds good to us; put down your Arkie Toothpick and tune into it!
