VINYL IN THE WOODS

posted July 1st, 2010

If you're looking for a weekend trip for 4th of July weekend and you live in central California, why not drive down to Big Sur? Its natural beauty has been celebrated by everyone from Ansel Adams to the Beach Boys! And that's just from A to B. Yeah, it can be very calming and centering out there whether you're chilling out by the waves (literally - it can get quite cold along the coast) or hiking through the pines and the oaks and the redwoods and whatever else they have there. Plus, this weekend there's the Vinyl In The Woods record fair for all you collector scum! Hosted by The Henry Miller Library, Vinyl In The Woods is an all-day event, from 11am to 11pm on July 3rd. There'll be live music and DJs all day long, a suprise movie, and organic street cuisine by Babaloo, a Cuban food truck from Carmel Valley. Beer and wine sold on the grounds - don't bring your own! Confirmed vinyl vendors are Drag City (featuring our girl - or it woman-child? - Nicole Yalaz), Amoeba, Burger Records, Vinyl Revolution, Oragami, B Music/Finders Keepers and Future Recordings. The whole spectacle is yours for three dollars. Get some time with nature - and shop for records! This sounds perfect - if we weren't a couple thousand miles away this weekend, we'd totally do it. But what about you? If you're anywhere within two thousand miles of Big Sur, you owe it to yourself and us and to the very culture of music to get down there and shop until you drop - the needle, that is. Vinyl is back! Back to nature, that is. Make a big deal - at Big Sur, this weekend.
