For those of the curious sort , Moikai is a Japanese word meaning "play again." And O'Rourke is an Irish word meaning "country-ass."

You heard right the first time. As it transpires, Moikai is a continuation of the Distemper and Dexter's Cigar labels that were started by Jim O'Rourke in the 1990s. Back in 1994, Jim started it all off with the Distemper label and a reissue of Merzbow's Ecobondage. The process continued in '96-'98 with Dexter's Cigar (which was co-curated by David Grubbs), bringing the world reissues of Henry Kaiser, Derek Bailey, and countless others (well, nine or ten anyway). Moikai surges forth from the spot where Dexter's Cigar expired, but with a new twist: in addition to reissues, Moikai will also be issuing new recordings by the best electronic and minimal artists out there, as well as never before available archival recordings. And sometime later in the millennium, these recordings will be available for some lucky label to rediscover and reissue (we're covering all our (free-)bases here).
